SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Xilinx Inc. (XLNX) on Monday reaffirmed its prior first-quarter revenue forecast, saying it expects revenue to rise between 1% and 5% over its fourth-quarter sales of $450 million. Such a range would bring the programmable logic chipmaker's revenue to between $454 million and $472 million. The company's chips are used in products such as cellphone base stations, network routers and DVD players.

4:34PM Altera affirms quarter revenue outlook (ALTR) by Michael Paige
LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Altera Corp. (ALTR) late Monday affirmed its revenue outlook for its fiscal first quarter that calls for sales to rise 4% to 7% from the preceding three-month period. After the closing bell, Altera said in a midquarter update that new products were driving its growth, with its Stratix II and Cyclone II, Max II and HardCopy devices all showing strong results. In January, the company had predicted revenue for the period would range from $293 million to $301.6 million. Wall Street analysts, on average, are looking for a profit of 20 cents a share on revenue of $297.9 million, according to a Thomson First Call survey. Altera makes chips that can be programmed to perform specific functions for a wide range of products.
