... meanwhile on a more mundane front I struggle to learn Mandarin (not so bad actually) but for fun I investigate the other 'dialects'... since the 75 or so words from my childhood have proved themselves absolutely useless in this endeavour... I have found that I am not crazy and the numbers in Cantonese for example (or in my case more appropriately Toisanese I guess) are as I remember... Just said differently in PRC Mandarin :o) I notice that your Hakka also seems as does Cantonese to have a gazillion intonations... All hail Mandarin LOL.. At least my wife and daughter are very happy to be able to communicate... NO we do not want pigeon... All I can say is if you can communicate sufficiently in more than one 'dialect' you are truly a pretty smart guy :O) Even 1-10 is spoken so differently... Al
