A rough cut on the comparison between a current processor and a processor 6 months out would be to use Moore's Law (yes yes not exactly Moore's law).

If you expect performance to double every 18 months (A big if I agree), then that works out to a 25% bump in performance on average every 6 months.

Since the Conroe benchmarks are ballpark 25% better (25%-40%?), I would expect things to be very competitive the by the end of the year.
