It's in good condition. Bud Moore made it out of cedar, knotty pine, probably hemlock and fir plywood. It has never been finished, and was basically a basement gun cabinet, not one you would put in your living room. He gave it to me when he moved from Missoula to Ogden Utah. My brother took it over for quite a while and then gave it back to me last fall.

I sanded it down real good and gave it a couple of coats of dark walnut stain. When that has a chance to cure, I'll give it some Formby's.

The doors are plywood that were painted as long as I can remember. I sanded and sanded, and got the paint off.

Today I drew some 8 1/2 by 10" oval designs with, get this, a moose in the center, on each door and carved them out with my router and some carving chisels that my wife got for me a year or so ago. After I've got them all trimmed up, I think I'll have my daughter give them some simple color tones that will be compatible with the stained wood of the rest of the cabinet.

I want the gun cabinet to look nice for the area of the house I plan to place it. Most of our furniture is Oak, but I plan to put this in my library, which is in our finished basement. I want to honor its original purpose by not making too many fancy embellishments on it.
