Bill - would you consider Syntroleum (SYNM) as a potential short. From their website:

Syntroleum Corporation engages in the research and development of a proprietary process (the Syntroleum Process) designed to convert natural gas or synthesis gas into synthetic liquid hydrocarbons...

Somehow, they have been "developing" and "perfecting" this technology since about 1998, at least as a publicly-traded company. They were operating as a privately-funded "startup" for perhaps a decade or two prior to that.

Still, they somehow never seem to quite get the technology together. Even in the current alternative energy free-for-all, their share price has gone nowhere (except for an occasional spike following some SYNM-written PR).

The company's founders, Ken & Mark Agee, drew 7-digit salaries and cashed out millions of dollars in stock options some years back....comfortably retired now.

It sure smells like REFR, ALTI, TURBO, and others. Unfortunately, like them, this one seems like it can circle the landing strip indefinitely.
