Does anyone know anything about the possibility of Avid developing MPEG (as opposed to motion JPEG) editing projects. There was some discussion of this possibility on the CUBE thread. I think there was mention of a press release from Avid indicating that they were proposing something at the recent Berlin show.

I've emailed Avid, but they have not responded, and there was no mention or knowledge of this on an Avid users board that I'm a part of.

Does anyone know if the consumer grade Avid Cinema is MPEG based. I know the higher end systems are motion JPEG. It seems to me that if Avid can sucessfully market an MPEG/recordable DVD system at a price point that is within reach of the average consumer, it would generate a pretty big market.

Thanks for any light you can shed.
