I'm looking for some guidance. I sold some property, so I am thinking of getting some dividend paying stocks for income. Although I’ve been in the stock market for 10 years, I never held stock specifically for dividends. Some I have stumbled on recently have yields nearly twice as high as CD’s. I like the security of CD’s but I need more income than they offer. I am concerned about preserving capital (I had a knack for picking losers) so I’m studying up on mutual funds too since I feel they may be less volatile.

I’d appreciate any insight regarding the various sectors for income, any strategy suggestions and some guidance on how to properly evaluate them. Sectors that look attractive to this novice are Financial, Basic Materials, and some closed end management investment companies.

I know I could scour all the posts as well as some other threads and probably come up with some answers, but it would be most helpful if I could get the whole “package” so to speak from reviewing a few helpful replies.

Thanks, Bob
