Well, that Jesse Eisinger piece pretty much sums it up. You can't say anything negative about a company without risking a huge cost.

Society does not want to hear anything negative. It is felt that it does no good for anyone to dispel the illusions.... though of course reality will rear its ugly head at some point with or without the criticism.

This is basically why shortselling is so discouraged and hated. "Let me live in my delusions....I don't want to hear the truth."
