re: I agree that strengthening the UN should be a priority. But tell me, how can we do that when the majority of the members are non-Democratic nations that do not share our ideals? How can we do that when 2 of the permanent security council members are China=non-democratic and Russia=backsliding towards authoritarianism?

The majority of the world has never "shared our ideals". It's only recently, due to a succession of smart US leaders, that the world has slowing started moving towards democracy. We didn't force it down their throats with our military, we set an example and they followed.

We don't own the world (increasingly the world owns us). It's not easy and there is no shortcut. Instant gratification is out of the question... the people of all countries have the right to self-determination. Hopefully they will choose the right direction... but if we try to force them it will certainly backfire.

The world is a dangerous place, but we have a military that is bigger than the next 3 counties combined. Why are we so afraid? If we are so afraid, with our nukes and our huge military, other countries should be quacking.

Why are we so afraid? What good is our huge military spending doing for us?
