I started out counting downloads, but that data became useless because more and more upgrades came out. So the number of downloads was no longer a guide. I also was graphing minutes served, but they stopped publishing that information too.

Now there is only "users online" which is some guide. I'm waiting until I've got a bit more data [or maybe a byte] then I'll do a graph. There is probably enough now to get a good guide to how it has been going.

As you can see, "users online" are 5 times as many as they were only a year or so ago.

Skype is already making money because they charge for some services.

It is already looking quite magical, so the critical mass was some time ago. The question now is how well competition can do.
