Pat - You've obviously thought this through a lot deeper than I have and the picture you lay out is quite plausible and sensible. On political issues, I try to challenge myself that there is usually a perfectly good explanation for why some group is doing what they are doing, especially if I don't support it, that perfectly explains--to them--why they are doing these things. Then, I try to figure out what it could be... The world situation makes me think of the old joke, (everything reminds me of a joke,) of the telegram from the Jewish mother to her son, "Start worrying now. Details to follow." -dan
