The reality is that I have to listen to several Southerners for a substantial time again before I will even attempt one within earshot of anyone who might take offense. Some people might be offended by a Yankee doing a bad drawl. The mother of one of my son's friends grew up in Marrietta. My son's friend's sister is named Megan. One day I talked with her long enough to hear her drawl and figured out that her duaghter's name was not Maagan. I had been saying it "wrong" for some time.
