I agree with you on dubai. Perhaps having ports run by foreigners is stupid policy but singling out dubai is the type of xenophobic racism that the left is becoming good at. Of course if bin laden had the port deal, they would probably be for it.
Friedman said in todays NYTimes--enough already. Send tough guy cheney to iraq and lock him in a room with all iraqi leaders and keep them there until they form a govt acceptable at all. IF this cant be done anytime soon, we should get out. We should not guilt ourselves into an open ended committment during an iraqi civil war if it comes to that.
Hawk, we are in the final stages of this round of the iraq war. Whether we continue there is up to what the iraqis do next. General Pace can bull shit us forever on how good things are, but all he is doing is paving the way for our "saving face" withdrawl. It would be better if our ambassador can get these dudes together with or without friedman and cheney and hammer something out that makes it worthwhile for us to stay and help. Again--shiaa majority must add an iraqi bill of rights and include sunnis in dod and interior. They must also restrict the persians and keep shiaa loyalty a notch below pan arab and iraqi loyalty. Sunnis for their part must trade in zarquawi for their enhanced position in the new govt and Kurds must promise to keep independence off the table. All must reject 3 state for 1 state secular iraq. Then we should stay and help.
