<<<"But Cheney needs to go first.">>>

That's exactly what I was saying in 2001. At this late stage I don't know if it's the best move or not though. Look at it this way. Cheney is one of the few politicians in America who is even less liked than junior. If he was left in office there would be nothing he could do. Congress would return to their oversight responsibilities and since Cheney is so disliked. Most congressmen would be against him because if they were on his side it would cost them whatever popularity they might have.

If cheney was impeached before junior was junior might be able to appoint someone like Jeb, McCain or kindalazy. Kindalazy would be a big mistake but someone like Jeb might be supported by just enough of the people to be elected in 2008. If junior selected McCain to replace cheney it would make him the odds on favorite to win the election in 2008.

It's been said "the government which governs best governs least". Cheney's unpopularity might lead to his own defeat at whatever he tried to do thus making the 2008 race a more even playing field.

All in all I really don't know if it would be better to impeach cheney first or not, but if the 2008 election is anything like the last two we may as well let the neocons pick who the president will be because it's impossible to beat a party who is allowed to change the votes and then count the votes.
