Amy, a follow-up to the gang-rape trial here in Orange County, the one where videotape evidence showed three teenage punks taking brutal advantage of a girl they just drugged:

This is really horrifying. No wonder rape victims don't want to come forward. Even with videotape evidence, the victim is going to be called a "slut" and "wannabe porn star," have private investigators check out her entire past, and even be threatened (not mentioned in the article, but something I heard of locally). And then a jury will deadlock because some members will actually believe this bullshit.

Thankfully the retrial brought about more definitive results, and now the defendants will have to pay. But what about the tactics of their well-paid defense lawyers? Another day, another case? They only did what was expected of any defense lawyer? Why should "defend your client" translate to "psychologically assault a victim of rape"?

By the way, on an unrelated note, take a look at this story, "Driver Allegedly Rams Pregnant Women's SUV":

... then come up with a creative "punishment that fits the crime." ;-)
