Re: I don't get your obsession with this Conroe demo, you're out of AMD, you don't own Intc... Just your ego?

I owned Intel stock for a couple years in the late 90s and sold. Then I picked up AMD and held most of it until I bought a house. If I had a crystal ball I would have kept renting and held my AMD shares another six months. Now that the house is paid for I wouldn't mind investing in AMD or Intel as I am very familiar with both companies. I question whether the timing is right for either. I feel the potential is relatively high for a "lose-lose" scenario where neither stock climbs for a while. I never short stocks though. I'd either keep the money on the sidelines or pour some of it in other closely related companies like NVIDIA or ATI.

This is an investors board. Opinions are shared. Bad news based in fact is better than good news which is not. Many of the pro-AMD "facts" shared about the Conroe benchmarks were just plain wrong. I could have posted far fewer times if I didn't have to explain simple things like why all timedemos aren't the same and why encoding time is related to file size.

The "Intel cheats and Anandtech is their whore" mindset is quite comforting to some. Others prefer the "paid basher/must be shorting" mentality even if the messenger happens to be right. That mindset won't prevent Intel from putting out good products every now and then.

Charlie has been talking up Conroe/Merom/Woodcrest performance for months now. While he isn't 100% accurate, he does have good industry contacts and is quite knowledgeable. I feel that AM2 will have to be something really special for AMD to keep the performance lead and right now it doesn't look too promising. I also feel AMD's share price has nowhere to go but down if Intel gains a performance advantage in desktops, maintains their performance advantage in notebooks, and narrows the performance gap in servers.

I see several people have put me on ignore recently. It is possible to get too much of a good thing. ;-) I'll put myself on ignore for a while and stop posting. We'll see how Conroe does in Q3 (or Q4 according to Doug) and how well Intel and AMD pricing hold up the rest of the year. If Conroe performance sucks you can all have a good, long laugh at my expense. If Conroe performance doesn't suck don't say nobody warned you.
