Hard to say. Certainly there are similarities. One notable difference is that there wasn't a global depression in 2000. Nor a general feeling that the US had gotten screwed in the last war because the leadership was too inbred. There was a terrorist attack, or at least a facsimile of one, that sparked a power grab. There has been a constant erosion of freedoms, no doubt soon to include making abortion illegal...
