Micron could undercut Sandisk prices: Barron's
Sunday March 12, 3:54 pm ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sandisk Corp. (NasdaqNM:SNDK - News), a maker of flash memory chips for mobile phones and digital cameras, could see its prices undercut by Micron Technology Inc. (NYSE:MU - News), Barron's reported in its March 13 edition.

Micron, which said last week it would buy digital memory card maker and Sandisk competitor Lexar Media Inc. (NasdaqNM:LEXR - News), could use its joint chipmaking venture with Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - News) to reduce Lexar's chip costs and increase supply, wrote Bill Alpert of Barron's.

Sandisk has enjoyed good profit margins compared with other memory chip makers, due mostly to patent royalties the company gets from other flash makers, Alpert wrote. Sandisk also saw its stock triple last year because of surging demand and limited supply for flash, he wrote.

On Friday, Sandisk shares closed 47 cents lower at $53.06 on Nasdaq.
