Thomas > Zionism is different from Judaism ....

People should read and understand (below) why this is so. The "orthodox" rabbis are not just cranks -- the whole point of the Jewish religion is that the Jews are not allowed to have a secular state until they deserve one -- as decided by the Almighty and not by Britain or the UN or the US. Therefore, the creation of the State of Israel is in direct contradiction to the Jewish religion. In fact, it is the Jewish religion which denies the "right" of the State of Israel to exist and not Hamas or Ahmadinejad. Of course, the religion has been "adjusted" in recent years to make accommodation for this little problem but serious believers don't accept this. However one views it, the Jewish religion has become pointless because the Jews have taken possession of the Promised Land without the Messiah leading them to it. And that is a fact.

From a personal point of view I find the whole thing crazy. If people don't want to follow the tenets of the religion then why be Jewish? Surely it's better to drop the religion, as I have done, than pervert the religion to suit one's own ends -- and especially if it means having to live in a state of perpetual war. The irony is that the whole idea of the State of Israel was to enable the Jews to get away from persecution and bloodshed and, in fact, it's creating more. One doesn't have to be Jewish, or in fact "anything", to believe in God.
