EU Clears Proposed Purchase of Serbian Juice Company by Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola HBC

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- EU regulators said Friday that The Coca-Cola Co. and the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Co. could proceed with their plans to buy the Serbian fresh juice producer Fresh and Co.

Antitrust officials saw no competition problems and received no complaints from rivals, according a list of regulators' approvals published Friday.

The net amount to be paid for the purchase is 19.5 million euros ($23.5 million) but Coca-Cola HBC said in December that the final purchase price was subject to certain adjustments and includes the settlement of some of Fresh and Co.'s financial obligations.

The acquisition includes a production facility at Subotica and the juice and nectar brands "Next" and "Su-Voce."

The purchase is in line with Coca-Cola HBC's strategy to expand in the non-carbonated nonalcoholic beverages market.

Coca-Cola HBC is the world's third-largest bottler of products for U.S.-based Coca-Cola Co., which has a 24 percent stake in the Greek company.
