As far as the media is concerned, the McNamara "overrated" thing seemed to get started about a month ago in The Daily Orange..the student newspaper.

There was a one day point-counterpoint column..overrated or not overrated. GMac was not happy with that. To tell the truth many SU fans who have followed the team since McNamara was a freshman (and they won the NCAA tourney) have expressed disappointment with McNamara both as a point guard and as a shooter the past couple of years. The term overrated has been used for a while among local Orange fans. (many will now deny it after GMac's recent incredible BE tourney) :)

He really is a shooting guard and unfortunately for him Boeheim has had problems getting him a reliable point guard..Edelin was supposed to be that PG but due to personal problems it didn't work out.

The McNamara situation at Syracuse reminds me of the old Smothers brothers bit...mom always liked you best. Boeheim has stuck with McNamara through some very bad games, something he usually doesn't do with other players on the team. JB does have a double standard when it comes to player treatment.

Another thing about Boeheim...he usually directs his complaints about the press at the local media. Rarely do you see Boeheim go after the national media. I live in the Syracuse area and in my opinion Boeheim gets treated with kid gloves by the local press.

He's a good coach but he's been a big fish in a small pond for a long time and can be a little on the arrogant side. IMO

It appears that his rant did light a fire under the team.
