Carbon Monoxide Scare

Six people go to hosptials after breathing Carbon Monoxide fumes at a Daytona Beach hotel.

Carbon monoxide fumes sickened six people at a Daytona Beach hotel sunday.

The fire department says two guests at the Plaza Ocean Club on Atlantic Avenue called 9-1-1 after suffering flu-like symptoms.

They were taken to the Halifax Medical center.

The two top floors of the hotel were evacuated, as more guests were experiencing symptoms.

All together, four guests and two employees were taken to area hospitals.

Lt. John King with Daytona Beach fire says the problem is with a chimney.

"We've determined that the boiler room in the basement has a chimney stack that runs up through the entire building.Somewhere between the ninth floor and the roof, there were some problems there. So right now the building engineer is on sight. The gas company is gonna be coming down to conduct some tests and they're gonna determining why this Carbon Monoxide is not venting properly."

Carbon Monoxide is a tasteless, odorless invisible fume that can kill.

Guests are not being permitted on the top two floors, until further tests are completed.
