To answer your first question, I'd suggest you read post # 4529.
This was the interview of J. Morgan and will give a better perspective.

For your second question, AMAT is the market leader. They will
not be if the're not the best.

If you are a long term investor, I believe AMAT is a good value anytime. I always recommend it to anyone if they ask what stock
is good to own.
