<You don't need to solve all the problems of the universe to know the difference between a superstition and a fact.>
Well, fill us in... (especially) in light of Dennett's book, how do they differ?
<All religions have grown up out of superstitions. Clue...they are full of extremely primitive beliefs and childish ideas.>
That's simply your belief system... actually, because there are volumes of reading on beginnings of Taoist and Buddhist writtings and practices, medical and otherwise that come right out of observation of mind, nature, etc. I've mentioned this before, apparently you have no interest, but that doesn't make you statement (or beliefs) any more true. :) BUT, you should realize that your statements are quite provincial and show little understanding of other cultures and religions.
BTW, you're also saying essentially that there was no Jesus Christ even as a "master" or similar figure. Of course that IS easier to believe than the assertion about Buddhist and Taoist knowlege because Christianity is so convoluted and was passed along during such turmoil and crazyness. But in China things were actually chronicled quite well, and much of the knowlege is relatively untouched.
<"The real question IMHO is are we a 'part' of it (free choice">
Well, are we just a cog in the wheel... are those belief systems (religions) {and the rest of 'evolution') Dennett speaks of simply part of random evolution, or are choices made along the way???
I think it's worth noting that as conditions have changed, so have belief systems... but is there a feedback loop... ie. choice changes beliefs, which actually changes conditions???
