If you look at actual retail prices, similar performance processors from AMD sell at same price as Intel.

For instance, an Athlon 64 3000 at tiger direct sells for $129. A P4 2.66 Mhz sells for $119. I have 2 systems at home each with one of these processors, and they seem to have same performance. I think this assertion: "And your average Intel $140 CPU (after $10 ASP cut) will still be quite a bit outperformed by your average AMD $100 CPU." does not seem supported by looking at prices. And also, apparently there is no systematic comparison of this issue published by anyone. So I don't know how people reach this conclusion.
