One was a physics major. He explained that the four seasons were caused by the Earth's elliptical orbit, that winter was when the Earth was the farthest away from the Sun, as did 19 other recent grads and one professor. Then others went on to explain that the phases of the moon were caused by the Earth's shadow on the moon. A lunar eclipse every month, now that is what I call entertainment.

I guess they all graduated with BS degrees. I thought it might be a spoof until I started telling friends at a party about the video only to find I was one of three people there who remembered 3rd grade science.

A friend, who did remember 3rd grade science since he is a rocket scientist who works at Goddard, told me about another study where a wire, a battery and a light bulb were handed to a bunch of MIT students and almost none of them could get the light to light up.

edit: here was one student's excuse:

As an MIT alumnus, may I answer this one? The answer is because the location of the contact points on a light bulb are not obvious to someone who does not install lighting systems on a regular basis and are most unlike the contact points on just about any other electrical device.

Oh c'mon! Haven't they ever changed one? or stuck their fingers in a light socket!?
