Just set up an inverse tachyon beam routed through your forward

Tachyons don't exist and neither do worm holes. Wormish holes exist though, but only in an abstract modelling sense. All races use gravity drives. Gravity can be used in a certain mode to collapse the continuum between distant objects, and this can be modelled as a wormhole when actually it's more of a worm holish thinning of space perpendicular to the direction of travel. Take that Alcubierre. Our inertial rockets can travel faster than alien spacecraft.
