[SONS Beat by a Penny] Shares of Sonus Networks (nasdaq: SONS - news - people ) fell 1% in late trading after it announced fourth-quarter results. The company posted a profit of 2 cents per share on revenue of $57 million. Sonus, which makes voice-over-Internet Protocol equipment, was expected to report a profit of a penny per share on revenue of $50 million, according to analysts. S&P Equity Research maintained a "hold" rating on the stock on Feb. 7. "We think Sonus is very well positioned to benefit from increasing demand for VoIP products, as evidenced by its recent contract win with Vonage, the leading voice over broadband provider in the U.S," it said. "However, we expect sales to fluctuate from quarter to quarter, on uneven carrier ordering growth potential and a stricter revenue recognition policy."
