They sold a record number of processors - more than they expected (as did AMD), but Intel had a build-up of inventory. Apparently they have caught up in chipsets, and now they are having a clearance sale on processors. This doesn't mean price war. And since AMD is supply constrained anyway, it should not decrease AMD earnings for this quarter. The reason I repeat the price ratio question is that some people here keep posting the notion that Intel has to cut prices by 33% (some say 60%) to be at same level as AMD. I think that is an absurdity. As to why H-P sells equal systems at equal price ? I suppose that is the only way to attract customers. Regarding servers, obviously Intel misjudged demand for x-86 64-bit servers, and AMD was ready with superior product. Until Intel brings out better server chips, AMD will retain and increase share. I don't see how anyone can predict the extent of increase. My over-all conclusion is Intel looked bad this quarter. They might look bad in q2. But this trend will reverse, and also the trend of "AMD will take over the world" will also moderate. Maybe they'll both meet at a P/E of 20. Sarmad
