Looks like you are right. QCharts shows "volume" on NDX and INDU, but not on SPX. I wonder how they derive that volume - by adding up the volumes of the components, using some sort of a formula? Or, "borrowing" the volume on futures, using some sort of a mathematical derivation? One can't just "buy" or "sell" the index itself - must use some sort of an instrument, no?
