The foundations of need for both ideas is the creation of a moral justification or excuse for immoral conduct. Often the deeper wisdom comes from seeing what is the same in the different.

And I don't think the comments of a hairdresser are a certain indicator of some bizarre social aspects of Arab culture.

Humans having bizarre social aspects is common to every culture.
