All elections are won in the middle, but a good strong democratic base who is fired up is necesssry too. The GOP has been winning with both a strong base and a cooperative center. But democrats depend more on the center than the GOP because there are more conservatives than liberals in the country.

Bush is killing himself, why interrupt the process? Let a few more million voters decide to reject Bush, then he will fall on his own. Hit Bush all you want though. He deserves it.
