Does anyone here think that Compaq might have an interest in acquiring JTS in whole or part? It would be quite a bargain for Compaq considering how easily they could absorb the remaining capacity and turn the operation profitable.

Is it possible that Compaq has held back on orders from JTS hoping they could pick up the company at a bargain price? Compaq also probably doesn't like being dependent on their competitors in the laptop business to supply them with drives, so perhaps they would like to have their own internal supply. I know this hasn't been Compaq's way of doing things in the past. Usually they like to play their competitors off one another, but maybe they are large enough now that such an acquisition would be strategic?
