Would you say that France has supported our strategic interests, or worked to promote their own agenda? IMHO there have been some instances when France has sought to be divisive just so they can be distinguished from the US. They certainly were more interested in maintaining French corporate profits than the interests of the Iraqi people.

Dominique de Vilepin stated that forcing France's Suez to merge into Gaz de France is in French strategic interests. Italians wanted to buy Suez, and Vilepin is blocking it. Some are calling this a shotgun wedding.

Overnight France's government will control 70% of the Liquid Natural Gas offloading port facilities in New England. I cannot help but wonder how the French socialists will use their new strategic tool.

The US needs to block this deal and force France to divest the ports from the Suez portfolio.
