With all due respect, I would direct you to today's NYT op ed piece by David Brooks as well as the new book Cobra 11 by Michael Gordon and General Traynor. For those of us who consider ourselves neocons, it becomes very clear where things went wrong. I can remember reading posts on this thread talking about flowers for our troops. What we got was an insurgency, albeit controllable at first--an insurgency which is clear after reading the above was mucked up by Rumsfeld, Tommy Franks, and Bremer. If Bush was the CEO of a company and Cheney his SR VP, both would have been fired long ago not because the above trio made initial mistakes but because those mistakes were never rectified. This administration which was supposed run by successful business folks now reminds me much more of General Motors incompetence than General Electric success---we had the wrong folks in charge. Texas rangers never won a thing and either has this team. So when i talk to my fellow neocons we talk more about the failure of rummy than the mistake of going into iraq, because most of us still believe that iraq could have worked out.
Yes John, there still is a chance of success. But the intersecting line of iraqi positive movemnets and american public opinion is working against us. Mike

PS Ralph Peters is quoted in the Brooks piece with his virulent anti-rummy articles three years ago. Same Ralph Peters who still is hopeful Man i hope he is right but that american public opinion factor cant just be ignored. There is a time limit on this thing now and positive results must become visible sooner rather than later.
