UPDATE 1-Ecuador loses Occidental tax appeal
Fri Mar 3, 2006 2:52 PM ET

(
Ecuador had appealed a 2004 ruling by an international tribunal that said Occidental was wrongly excluded from a tax revision process and had ordered the country to pay $75 million to the oil company. Occidental is one of Ecuador's largest investors.

The British court ratified the earlier ruling, said a government official of Ecuador close to the case.

Ecuador's attorney general is analyzing an appeal to halt the $75 million payment, the official said.

An Occidental spokesman declined to give further details.
