Sex Costs CBS, and a Whistleblower Takes the Stand
by Harold Maass

The price of an orgy

The FCC has fined 111 CBS stations $3.6 million for airing an episode of the hit drama "Without a Trace" that suggested a teen orgy. The penalty was the biggest ever imposed over a single TV episode. Conservative advocacy groups applauded the decision. CBS defended the program, saying its "important and socially relevant storyline" served as a warning to parents to keep a closer eye on their kids. (The New York Times, free registration required) The FCC also upheld a $550,000 fine against 20 CBS stations over singer Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" during the 2004 Super Bowl half-time show.
