a lot of it seems to be due to improving the copy protection features of Blu-Ray, a disc format nobody even HAS yet. so, again, Sony is more concerned with what benefits the content provide

I don't know if you caught the new CEO of Sony on 60 minutes the other day. It was an enlightening interview. First of all I was amazed, literally amazed at the amount of BS projects going on at Sony with no business plan whatsoever. Like that aibo the dog, for example, what was THAT about? But anyway the new CEO said that his impression about Sony was that they were overly concerned with digital rights and consequently apple ran away with the market for ipod, itunes.

I wonder if this PS3 delay is a residual effect of that line of thinking from the past or it is still going on? Because this will kill Sony again unless they get a handle on it. And once again just like Apple, there is a US manufacturer MSFT just sitting there ready to pick up the Sony spoils.

We have examples of this in many industries here, networking/telecom being the most obvious with their "tiered internet" strategy which has absolutely ZERO value to consumers.
