Semi Equipment Industry Shares Sharply Lower

Thursday Mar 16 2006 15:47:06 EST

Ridgeland, MS, MAR 16, 2006 (EventX/Knobias.com via COMTEX) --

Semis (SOX -2.8%) have completely missed out on recent 5-day stock market rally. Since the March 9 market close, the SOX is down (1.1%). Drilling down to semi equipment industry, today's picture turns very ugly. KLIC (-20%), AMKR (-16%), VSEA (-8%), TER (-6.3%), LRCX (-5%), BRKS (-4.7%), AMAT (-4.2%) and KLAC (-4%) are underperforming the broader semiconductor industry by a wide margin.

(-) KLIC: Kulicke & Soffa Industries expects June revenue to be down sequentially.

(-) AMKR: On March 2, 2006, Tessera, Inc. filed a Request for Arbitration with the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, captioned Tessera, Inc. v. Amkor Technology, Inc. The Request for Arbitration claims, among other things, that Amkor is in breach of its license agreement with Tessera as a result of Amkor’s failure to pay Tessera royalties allegedly due on certain packages Amkor assembles for some of its customers.
