Frere Uzique,
Didn't know you were also Francophile :-). Smoking is a terrible problem in most of Europe. In France, what is worse is probably drinking: French university cafeterias sell wine with meals, I don't remember if they sold softdrinks in my time, but wine was plentiful and subsidized. Same emphasis at highway cafeterias, and at the swankiest hotel in Paris (Henri Paul's Ritz).
The homeless folks in Paris (clochards), unlike their American counterparts, almost always had a few bottles with them. [I don't know where the clochards disappeared to though, hard to find them in Paris these days, same with the Gypsy kids. I guess they don't have the ACLU lawyers over there.]
