Er, also 'common knowledge' that the US administration said they believed the 'offer' was a TRICK... and either a PLOY to get the US to turn a blind eye to the Muslim Sudanese government's war of extermination against their Christian and animist south, or else a phony offer designed to gain bin Laden some PR victory in the Arab world when his Sudanese pals pulled the rug out from under us.

(The 'offer' might have been *believed* if the Sudanese government --- which had financial ties with bin Laden, and whom he had aided in their war --- had actually taken bin Laden into custody, before 'offering' him to us. But they didn't. :)
