You are talking about George W. Bush, are you not? Bush's policies have gone a long way toward arousing militant extremism as seen by gains in Mid East elections in Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq. Had Bush not invaded Iraq, there's no way those radical elements would have gained the political prominence they did in those elections.

Most folks keep forgetting that the overwhelming majority of population in Middle Eastern nations are disproportionately young people, young folks who are easily impressionable. The policies of Bush and Cheney have taught them to hate America. Indeed, hatred is a detriment to diplomacy.
