Hawk, those are reasonable questions though not really related to the pilot's case, nor to pacifists disagreeing with a war.

When you say "actively protest" if they merely speak, then it's reasonable. Of course everyone has different ideas and the whole point of free societies is that ideas are not suppressed. Suppose Tony Blair's war is in fact illegal, then simply denying the expression of that idea is absurd. He isn't a unilateral boss of the UK. He has to comply with laws.

Neither is King George II in fact a king. He has to answer to Congress. If congressors want to speak against his ideas, that's perfectly sensible and reasonable and an important aspect of the constitution. The president was specifically NOT given cart blanche to do what he likes and expect all to kneel in the direction of the White House 5 times a day when the bells ring.

You say you are in favour of freedom, self-determination and something else along those lines. If you mean only to choose between playing golf or going fishing, then that's a very limited concept of freedom. Normally, the idea of freedom is related to the concept of political ideology rather than freedom to discuss golf techniques [approved of course by you as we couldn't have subversive golf techniques being promoted].

Freedom. A lovely idea. Mostly given lip-service. Usually meaning 'freedom to agree with me'.
