On 60 minutes tonight... Segment 1... New York City's police department takes very strong and expensive measures to protect that city from future terrorist attacks by (among other things) using their own people to replicate CIA and FBI functions. It is clear that they don't trust that they will be protected by the CIA/FBI, but in light of the 911 "loose change" documentary, could it be that they don't feel safe FROM the CIA/FBI? It was also an interesting contrast to see how intelligent, competent people respond in the public interest to an extreme situation. Segment 2... one of the leading authorities on global warming (along with some of his associates) says that 1. the earth has 10 years to avoid passing an irreversible turning point with respect to global warming. 2. the White House is editing all scientific reports relating to global warming (even before congress receives them) to remove anything that might convey how serious an issue it is. It was a relief that segment 3 was on a happier subject.
