Hi, Gary--

Your last posts re the d/l were a bit confusing to this aging, preoccupied dome. I had a couple of immediate questions: 1) What does the internet explorer have to do with the q+ downloader? Especially when so many beta users who do not have a problem downloading, do not use IE? I thought that q+2 used its own downloader internet connection.

2) Regardless of my confusion as outlined above, my system already includes IE 3.0 (or so I thought), which I use very seldom, because I like netscape much more....so why wouldn't the downloader work, if your contention were correct??

3) In any event, I was certainly willing to put the elements you suggested into the Registry, but I don't know what this is. It has never come up before in my self stumbling course on computers, so I don't know how to find it. The help file in win95 is useless.

OK, those where my questions, but before sending them off to you, I thought I should explore a little more. First off, I checked the actual IE version number on my system..........to my absolute astonishment and disbelief, it was 4.0.4x. How could this be?? I know for an absolute fact that although I downloaded the 4.0 beta from the ms site sometime ago, I resolutely chose NOT to install it because of the problems people were reporting. I even decided to delete the file after a few weeks so that I would not be tempted to dabble. Now I can only babble. I have not a clue how the different version got into my system. However, this morning I re-installed version 3.0. Astoundingly, it actually did overwrite the files, and unbelievably, the downloader then worked!!!! No hitches, no drop-boxes asking for ID/PW, no notices stating that the files could not be found!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Gosh, oh Gee, oh my-- no longer the neglected, disadvantaged canuck....

Gary, I know how busy you must be, but sometime when you have a moment, I'd still like to have your comments on my initial questions (1, and 3, at least. As for 2, the fact that the loaded version of IE was no longer 3.0 is so mind-boggling that my head is still rebelling.)
