Bush has over-extended our military to the point where we might as well not be a super power anymore. That was a huge strategic mistake on his part, not waiting to get support from the UN and major allies. Now our army and marines are exhausted, our equipment is worn out and our National Guard is decimated to the point where they can't even respond to domestic crises. recruitment is also very tough now.

It was also a huge mistake not to have a post-invasion plan, and to trust the lies of Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rumsfield. And they really did lie. Those were not just miscalculations. So like Vietnam, when a war is started and waged based on a lie it will inevitably fail.

So as for taking on Syria and Hamas? Not gonna happen. Almost nobody would support an occupation of Syria or Iran, and a few bombing runs aren't going to get much of anything done.
