This product may be hot. Dynamic HTML is very highly regarded by web developers as the future for more dynamic websites. Macromedia is doing the right thing by introducing a new tool for DHTML rather than trying to address it with one of their existing tools. In the big picture, Shockwave failed as it wasn't adopted by a significant number of web developers and it didn't result in significant new sales of Director. DHTML has the ability to deliver on the promises of Java - true cross platform, robust performance, etc. If this new product can harness DHTML, then it should sell well.

Macromedia has its annual developers conference coming up in October. It is entitled "Ignite the Web" (I just got the brochure) and the conference looks totally web.

Any interest in this new product should be for longer term investors interest only. The financial community has seen too many announcements of the next best thing to react to a product announcement.
