Jesus lives....or should we say Jesus lives in the collective mind as a archetype from the refinement of many myths & heros. An upgraded model built & evolved from an amalgamation out of the past Prometheus, Hercules , Theseus , Zoroasters , Osirus etc . The romans were constantly dabbling in the oriental mysteries , the "Man God" being nothing new but one who promised salvation to everyman was a powerful allure .
It is one of the necessities of the life of the mind of the primate who dreams dreams and the dramas he imagines , to create and include those Hero's that can conquere all & go beyond all .... who can point to resolution to the conditions of fear, war , sickness and death that have plagued all of us from the beginning . The "One" who can intercede with primordial "Hidden One" (AMEN) and defeat all demons and even death . To offer eternal life and light , in place of eternal darkness and lead us to the "promised land" .
So from the earliest Greek Plays performed under the stars in the amphitheatres, with those Tragedies & Comedies performed with the fallen Heros who rose to conquere again , and the religious dramatic ritual & rites from which man drew meaning comes the final "Prophet/Messiah/Mahdi" to embody the ritual's final fulfillment for realization in the "next" world.
Think the change comes with an "other world/afterlife " focus , rather than the earth based nature centered belief , with the idea of everyman may achieve salvation and be welcomed home by "God" , that attracted so many . |
