Silicon Valley Technology Fast 50 Award Honors
Fastest Growing Companies

Winner Boasts Growth Rate of 23,605 Percent

14 Companies Receive New Gold Circle Award for Sustained
Record Growth

Talented Employees Cited as Top Success Factor

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 1997--Deloitte & Touche LLP and
Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network announced the winners of the Silicon Valley
Technology Fast 50 at a gala awards ceremony last night.

Given to the fastest growing companies as ranked by revenue, the Fast 50 recognizes the
tremendous growth and achievements of those companies leading the booming
technology market - and the economy in Silicon Valley.

In addition to the Fast 50, a new award, the Gold Circle, pays tribute to the 14 companies
who have recorded incredible revenue growth and placed in the Fast 50 for three
consecutive years -- no small feat in the competitive high technology industry.

``Nowhere else in the country produces the results we have here in Silicon Valley,'' says
Roy Avondet, who leads Deloitte & Touche's Northern California High Technology
Group. ``Our Fast 50 companies demonstrate the Valley's vitality and its continuing
ability to grow leading technology companies.''

Continues Becky Morgan, President and CEO of Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network,
``This unprecedented growth is the result of the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit which
symbolizes Silicon Valley -- leading to the production of the world's most versatile
technologies and products.''

That statement becomes a theme as you look at the winning companies. Silicon Valley's
Fast 50 list is very unusual compared to the 15 other Fast 50 programs across the nation:
it boasts a majority of public companies, seven companies in the billion-dollar circle,
including Fortune 500 companies as well. The expansive growth in high technology is
further exemplified by software companies now competing head-to-head with growth
numbers recently produced by the semiconductor industry.

The number one spot goes to a company with an amazing growth rate of 23,605%:
International Network Services. The company provides services for complex enterprise
networks. Says Donald McKinney, Chairman and CEO of INS, ``INS is pleased to
receive this prestigious award because it brings greater attention to our unique Silicon
Valley success story.''

Continues McKinney, ``As a services-only company, we chose Silicon Valley for our
headquarters because it is the premier location for building high-growth
technology-oriented companies, like INS, that rely on venture capital, leading edge
products, and great people to deliver quality solutions to their clients.''

McKinney is not alone in acknowledging the highly talented pool of people who live and
work in Silicon Valley as a major success factor. Many companies were asked how they
were able to achieve -- and for Gold Circle winners, sustain -- such high levels of growth.
Mark Leslie, CEO of VERITAS Software Corporation, sums it up, ``Our talented,
dedicated employees.'' Most of the companies, including all of the top five, agreed.

``In 1997, our Fast 50 winners again reinforce what we have heard from prior winners:
those companies that can hire and retain the best employees win,'' says Mark Evans,
National Managing Director of Deloitte & Touche's High Technology Group.

The Silicon Valley Technology Fast 50 winners are eligible for inclusion on the
Technology Fast 500 list, which ranks the 500 fastest growing technology companies
across the United States. The Fast 500 uses data from the Fast 50 programs throughout
the nation.
