Thanks. I think the founders saw more up close how religion can be warped to fit the earthy evil of man. We've enjoyed two hundred years of relative religious tolerance, and don't have that 'up close' view of religious zealots (Falwell and his ilk don't really count; they are not actively killing in the name of God). When we see others who are throwbacks to that era, we are rightly shocked. Unfortunately, some of us attribute that to a specific religion, while those with a historical perspective know that to be untrue. Any religion can be corrupt or corrupted.
